One the challenges of offering a calendar is to obtain the needed data.

If you currently have an Events calendar on your website, you probably provide a web form and ask people to submit their event information.

  • Often people don't do this, or do so irregularly -
  • and you end up either chasing data or offering an incomplete calendar.

Contributors certainly want to be on your calendar - but simply may not have time to fill the web forms for all the newspapers, web calendars or other outlets.

An alternative resource.

We resolve this by sharing. People put their event data in a single place - and you can select what you want for use in your calendar.

Simple - efficient - effective!

Surf the database.

The easiest way is to use our basic search page. (Notice part 4 - you can choose from several data formats.)

Shared Media list.

Like our event data, our media list is a shared resource. Adding your contact information and submission requirements can increase your visibility to people making news.

Once a week we match upcoming event data to your submission requirements and send a summary email. An easy way to make sure you haven't missed anything - and having everything in one place can speed your fact checking.

Supplement your current submissions.

There are many ways you can used the data at Publicdrum - from something as basic as surfing the database to as sophisticated as integrating our data into your existing publishing process.

Use shared data rather than requiring submission to your web form.

Consider using Publicdrum to off load the acquisition of event data - and focus instead on accomplishing your objectives.

  • Our mission is to work with individuals and small organizations putting on public events.
  • We help them learn how to promote more effectively and to get their event data widely distributed.
  • They enter event data into ONE web form - sharing allows you to select and use anything you want.

You can used this shared event data to supplement that submitted via your web form - or source your data entirely from a shared public resource. Either way you save both time and cost.

Have your developer look at our API - or contact us for specific suggestions. There is no charge for any of our services.

Offering a Community Calendar: three steps.

First, register at Publicdrum, select an automatic calendar and place it on your website.

Next, introduce people in your community to Publicdrum. We have lots of ways to save them time - plus you can display their events on your website.

Finally, select the organizations you want to display. As soon as you select their name - their events will show up on your calendar.

After that, the only maintenance is add new organizations as they begin using Publicdrum - or remove the ones you no longer want to carry.

These calendars are open source, there is no charge for their use. Same for the event data - contributors enter it in hopes that outlets (like you) will display it.
